Tumblers coiled in white stoneware with volcanic sand additions.

What makes these pieces unique is the addition of crashed volcanic sand from the Greel island of Santorini.

The island of Santorini in the Aegean sea, was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history, the Minoan eruption (3,600 years ago). There are beaches with sand or pebbles made of solidified lava of various coclors. Such as the red beachwhere I collected the sand from in order to experiment with and incorporate it in my work.

Glaze is organically made of olive wood ashes and I have played with glaze thickness on these five cups. Thinner application leaves transparent areas whereas thicker glazed areas are slightly opaque.

The exterior lower part of each piece was left unglazed in order to offer a tactile experience with the materials.

The tumblers are made entirely by hand so there might be slight variations in height,

Approximately 12 cm | 4.7 " in height

Capacity 16 oz | 470 ml in proximity.

Hand wash recommended.

All of my pieces are completely unique and one of a kind.

Irregular textures and marks are part of my works and should be embraced.
