Set of 3 Trays with Volcanic Sand
A set of three trays made in white stoneware with volcanic sand additions.
What makes these pieces unique is the addition of crashed volcanic sand from the Greek island of Santorini.
The island of Santorini in the Aegean sea, was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history, the Minoan eruption (3,600 years ago). There are beaches with sand or pebbles made of solidified lava of various coclors. Such as the red beachwhere I collected the sand from in order to experiment with and incorporate it in my work.
Glaze is organically made of olive wood ashes.
The glaze reacted beautifully on the sand giving dark blue hues.
